Obituary of Slaw Bober
Passed away peacefully with family, at the age of 79, on January 6, 2017, after suffering a major stroke. Slaw was born in Ukraine, on May 29, 1937 and immigrated to Canada as a child with his family, fleeing the horrors of World War II. He spent his teen years in Wawa, ON where he had many close friends. After studying science at U of Ottawa and Mechanical Technology at Ryerson, Slaw returned to Wawa where he worked with Algoma Steel. In 1970, he moved to Deep River, ON to support his family while pursuing a career as a Safety Instructor with Ontario Hydro. After his retirement, Slaw went on to cultivate his more spiritual and healing side, practicing Meditation and training in Reflexology, Therapeutic Touch, and Reiki. He spent his final 3 years in the care and company of his loving family in Fredericton, NB – as dementia and other medical conditions complicated independent living in his home in Deep River. Slaw was generous, friendly and wise. He touched the lives of many people who passed through his training classrooms all across Ontario. He loved the outdoors, nature and spending time on the water. He saw beauty and wonder in everything, and always had a story to share with the people he would meet. His smile, laugh and twinkling eyes will be missed. Slaw is survived by his siblings Anatole (Tasia) Bober and Klawa Summers, both of Wawa, ON. He is survived by his children, Steven Bober and Larissa (Andre) Reinders, and by 5 grandchildren (Cameron, Nick, Hope, Megan, and Alex), all of Fredericton, NB. As per Slaw’s wishes, cremation has taken place. He did not wish for a funeral, memorial or visitation. We would ask that you please remember and celebrate Slaw in your hearts and in your own meaningful way. Blessed Be. Personal condolences can be left at www.yorkfh.com
