My condolences to Brigid and Hannah. Dick was a wonderful and interesting person. I had no idea of the things he did until I read his obituary. Before my father, Bob Young, passed, he enjoyed Dick's company and stories. And Eric and I enjoyed seeing Dick and Brigid at gallery openings and other events. Our thoughts are with you all

Dear Hannah and Brigid,
How sad to hear of the loss of Dick. He was one of the first people I met in Fredericton when I arrived with 3-year old Louise to my first ever job at Energy Educators. He was a Board member - and his warmth and welcoming spirit helped smooth my transition. Such a mighty physical (chopping wood!), intellectual and spiritual presence. I thinking very much of you both across the miles (from Australia) and sending my love and deep sympathies.

Dick and I met, as he picked me up while I was back packing and hitch hiking through Canada, coast to coast, in 1979. I stayed with him, Hannah, and several puppies on Grand Mannan Island on the Atlantic Coast, for a week. Helping him remodel his cottage, and just hanging out was a nice adventure for me. Since then, we both kept in touch occasionally. We differed on the subject of origins, but had most other views of life in common. I am a writer by avocation, and we exchanged thoughts about various topics, now and then, specifically my Christian faith. I liked Dick, and am glad we met and kept in touch, Greg from Wisconsin

I hope that in due time you receive God’s peace that excels all thought, so that it will guard your hearts and your mental powers by means of Christ Jesus. God is called the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation. Rest assured that he cares for all his creatures and he would never bring us suffering. A soothing scripture I like is Psalm 34:18 which reads: “Jehovah is near to those that are broken at heart, and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.” Thus, while you await the Paradise where no one will be sick and die, may you lean on Jehovah God to cope with your separation from Dick. (Psalm 37:29)

I only met Dick a few times as he had retired by the time I came to UNB. I see one of his contributions to the department every day in my office. A great photo that he took in Lytton BC in 1981.
All of us in the Department of Earth Sciences send our condolences.

Sorry for your great loss. I knew Dick through my interest in birds and I played fiddle with him. I admired him greatly.

Dick was so intelligent, and his sense of humour lightened the atmosphere whenever one met him. He was physically courageous and socially never dull. He was likeable and kind and thoughtful. My sympathies to the whole Grant family.
