Obituary of Edward Pratt

It is with great sadness that the family of Edward (Ted) Pratt announces his death on August 12, 2016 at The Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born in Hartland NB on September 8, 1941, he was the son of the late Thomas and Rhoda Pratt. Ted is survived by his wife, Linda Pratt; son, Daniel (Stacey) of Fredericton, NB; daughter, Rhonda (Ernest) Salmon of Bath, NB; brothers, Bill (Lynn) of Hartland, NB, Alex (Sue) of Alberta; sisters, Mary Ann of Ontario and Peggy (Murray) of Nova Scotia. Ted will be greatly missed by his pride and joy, his grandchildren; Taylor, Travis, Tori, Christopher, Kira and Tyler. Teds interests ranged from flower and vegetable gardens to, in his early years, basketball, racquetball, softball and later he became an avid golfer. Ted was a career public servant working as a Professional Agrologist for the NB Agriculture Department for more than 35 years. He was a graduate of MacDonald College of McGill University BSc. Agr. 1963 after which he completed MSc. at The University of Vermont specializing in plant and soil science. In the early years of his career, Ted worked closely with agriculture producers as an extension advisor. Subsequently he went on to become Director of the Department’s Plant Industry Branch, a position he held for many years. In the course of his work, Ted was actively involved with numerous agriculture organizations at both the Provincial and National levels, including NB Soil and Crop Improvement Solutions Association and Canadian Seed Growers. In the later years of his career, Ted served as Assistant Deputy Minister before his retirement in 2000. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Monday, August 15, 2016 from 1-3 and 6-8 pm. A Funeral Service will be held from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 2 pm with Wayne Page officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Hartland, NB on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at 11 am.
