Obituary of Robert Gray

The passing of Robert “Bruce” Gray, of Fredericton, NB, husband of Patricia “Pat” Gray, occurred on Monday, April 4, 2016 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on July 7, 1926 in Upper Kingsclear, NB, he was the son of the late Robert and Grace (Pincombe) Gray. Bruce worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for Base Gagetown for 32 years, retiring in 1986. Bruce always loved music and played several instruments. In the 1950's he was a piper with the St. Andrew's Pipe Band. He played bass guitar for several years before coming back to the fiddle. He built over a dozen instruments and repaired countless more. He also taught many friends how to do their own repairs. He was a member of the Fredericton Bluegrass and Oldtime Music Association and the River Valley Fiddlers. In addition to his wife, Bruce is survived by his sons, Alan Gray (Betty Ann) of Fredericton, NB and their children, Ashley Wedge (Nick) and Robert J. and Michael Gray (Nasreen) of Halifax, NS and their children, Sarah, Kristin, Eric and Derek ; great grandson, Isaak Wedge; sister, Marjorie Messer and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bruce was predeceased by his sisters, Lillian Gray, Jeannie McNeil and Huldah Anderson; his brother, John Gray and his infant twin brother, James. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 from 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 7 pm with Rev. Peter Sherwood officiating. Interment will take place in Sunny Bank Cemetery at a later date.
