My condolences to the Cronin clan. I made my way up the hill from UNB to STU to take his seminar on Nietzsche following rave reviews of his courses from fellow philosophy students and was not disappointed. It was truly one of the most memorable courses I took. I still remember him saying with great enthusiasm "Theres just something great about wrestling with Nietzsche at 8:30 in the morning!"

Frank was the funniest, wisest academic I have ever met, and Ive met quite a few. He and Janet were warm, open, hospitable and gentle in a world of hard facts, ideas and positions. Frank was the best, most generous person he could be and a light to all of us. He (and lovely Janet) will be fondly missed. Love to all of the family.

Hi there. My name is Robin Fontaine. Frank was my undergraduate advisor, my teacher, my mentor, and a wonderful friend. I met Frank in 1993, and his passion captivated me. We wrote occasionally, and talked for many hours. I got a chance to see Frank again (and Janet) back in 2012. He mailed me his book last April, and it read: To Robin, a steadfast friend, and an excellent student. I am honoured to have been a small part of his life. I am sorry for your loss, he will never be forgotten: A COCK FOR ASCLEPIUS!

I was not only a student but I had the privilege to tutor and mark papers for Frank and he was instrumental in my obtaining my honours in philosophy. His stories of walking to work over the bridge (and he did in every type of weather), and his occasional rants of "Easter Sunday" not having anything to do with religion still bring a smile. He was a kind and made you think kind of man. It is a privilege to be one of his many students and he will be missed. God bless.

Such sad news, one of the most influential men in my life. You taught me to not only think but to think about my thoughts, to explore my life, surroundings, and the difference I make in the world. You always challenged me in so many ways, our visits on Friday morning before and after class over a coffee, I will never forget. Thanks for all you did for everyone who knew you. Sadly missed.

Sharon and family,
I remember your father very fondly sitting in his chair smoking his pipe and having a glass a wine with a good book. Your father was always very kind, supportive, funny in his own quirky way and loved teaching philosophy.
He will be missed. I hope you all can find comfort in knowing your parents are together again.
Deepest sympathy

Sitting in his chair enjoying his pipe; having wine and dinner with Janet; writing a book out back in his office; grinding coffee beans early morning; watching Dr Who; always welcoming of the never ending stream of kids coming and going; his knowing smile/smirk and timely words of guidance and wisdom. I have such fond memories of Frank, Janet and the days spent in and around the Cronin household. Im sure Janet was awaiting his arrival.
My thoughts and prayers are with Raymond, Arthur, Tim, Sharon, Mike, Richard and Maureen.

The Cronin Clan were our best friends in high school and university. Theyre still close friends to this day. I spent a lot of time at their house. Frank and Janet opened their home to everyone. They will be missed. I also took his class. And yes, often he would walk from Oak St. to St. Thomas. Wow. My heart goes out to his children and grandchildren. I can remember the smell of his pipe.......and now hell get all of the answers..........

Dr Frank Cronin had a profound impact on my life. His passion for philosophy was beacon of light that awoke me from a great sleep.
Over the past 20 years since my graduation from Saint Thomas University, I often think of him and his stories at the strangest times. I remembered a story he told about being buried in a snow bank just this past Good Friday as I shoveled the latest storm and watched my son build a snow fort.
Dr Frank had a special smile that I will never forget. His smile radiated a message he was privileged to know a great secret and he was yearning for you to know it too.
Good bye Rabboni.

I had the pleasure of being a philosophy student of his for a brief while at St Thomas, but his smile says it all. I am, I hope, a better person for having known him. After having read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance at his suggestion, he allowed my request of not giving me any of my marks on any of the tests or assignments that we had after that- it helped to make the learning more about the learning than the getting of grades- he rocked.
