Obituary of Harold Weston

It is with great sadness, the family of Harold Oscar Weston announce his peaceful passing at the Veteran’s Health Unit on August 1, 2015 with his family at his side. Harold had a long and wonderful life. Born March 10, 1923 in Pole Hill, he grew up in Carleton County and was proud to say he was a "Carleton County boy", he enlisted into the Canadian Forces with the Ordinance Group in his teens and served our country with honour until the end of World War II. He later moved to Marysville and was a member of the Town Council during the 1950’s when he was appointed to the position of Hospital Administrator of the Carleton Memorial Hospital a position he truly felt honoured to have and which led him into a position of provincial hospital administration with the New Brunswick Department of Health for more than 30 years up until his retirement. Harold believed in being an active member of his community, and offered his time to the Lions and Rotary Clubs. Harold and his loving wife Dawn (‘Dutch’) were long time members of the Marysville United Church and involved with the church’s Couples Club from 1952 until 1961. Their great passion was Square and Round Dancing, and they were Co-Presidents of the Canadian Square and Round Dance Society from 1980 until 1990. The two started dancing in 1972 and continued, hand in hand, until 2009. They were also very active with the Twin Seas Caravan Club and loved to travel. Predeceased by his parents, Cyril and Bertha (Stockford) Weston; his brother, Ronald and Harold's cherished wife of 62 years, Dawn. Harold is survived by his children, Lynn of Fredericton and Lyle (Mary) of Moncton. He will be greatly missed by his wonderful grandchildren, Jarrett, Lindsay and Emily all of Moncton. Both Harold and ‘Dutch’ were very proud of their family. Harold also leaves behind a sister Helen Swan of Halifax and two brothers, Vernon of Saint John, and Robert (Rita) of Fredericton. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Tuesday the 4th day of August, 2015 from 6 - 9 pm. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #4, Fredericton will hold a Tribute Service in the Funeral Home prior to visitation at 5:45 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at the Marysville United Church on Wednesday the 5th day of August, at 2:00 pm with Rev. Kelly Burke officiating. Following the service a reception will be held at the church. Interment will take place at the Byno Cemetery in Lakeville Corner, NB.
