Obituary of Geraldine Kitchen
Our Mom passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on Tuesday, March 24, 2015. She was predeceased by her husband, A. Ronald Kitchen and their son, Eric.
She was a loving mother to Albert, Meta, Eric, Ronald, and Audrey and a proud grandmother to Chris, Michael, Meredith, Jennifer, Sara, James, Alice, and Stephen. They all loved spending time at Grammy’s house in the country by the river. She had eight great grand children as well.
Mom devoted her life to her family and was a role model in the way she lived by example. She skated on the Saint John River well into her 70’s, fed guests (often just dropping in without notice) gourmet meals such as amazing chowders and pies, and she gardened with a magic touch at her Bear Island home. Her creativity showed in her quilting painting and the making of prize winning costumes for all occasions. Recently she had a drawing by her chair showing perspective. She inspired many of us with her newspaper clippings which she saved for visits from her family. She encouraged us to do what we wanted with our lives and made us curious about the world. We think of her often because of all the little sayings, “An apple a day” etc. which just seem to appear from nowhere in our minds.
A special thanks to Gary and Louise Chapman and Marge O’Neill for all the extra attention they gave Mom over the years. Our gratitude also goes out to the compassionate
nursing staff at York Care Centre.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of the donor’s choice in memory of Gerry would be appreciated. There will be no visitation or funeral service at this time; a memorial service will be announced at a later date. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
