Obituary of Leon Estabrooks
The passing of Leon “Mack” McLean Estabrooks of Fredericton, NB, husband of the late Carrie (Lasalle) Estabrooks, occurred on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the Veterans Health Unit. Born on February 27, 1931 in Bristol, NB he was a son of the late Judson and Ethel (McLean) Estabrooks. Mack served in the Canadian Armed Forces and was employed with the Department of Education as an accountant for 22 years. He was a past member of Wilmot United Church. Mack enjoyed car races, horse shows and especially fishing with his sons and grandsons. He was known by everyone at the racetrack as “Grampie”.
Remembered for his smile, Mack is survived by his daughter, Janet Stevens (Robbie) of Colpitts Settlement, NB; sons, Lyle Estabrooks of Fredericton, NB and Larry Estabrooks (Susan) of Nashwaak Village, NB; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; sister, Helene Murphy of Vancouver, BC; several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, Mack was predeceased by his grandson, Michael Stevens; brother, Arthur Estabrooks.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Monday, March 16, 2015 from 7-9 pm. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 4 are asked to assemble at the Funeral Home at 7 pm for a Tribute Service. A Funeral Service will be held from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at 1 pm with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Interment will take place at the Fredericton Rural Cemetery at a later date.
