Obituary of Joan Gillingham

The passing of Joan Sylvia Gillingham of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late Robert E. Gillingham, occurred on Monday, March 9, 2015 at home. Born on September 15, 1925 in Plymouth, England, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Marina (King) Symons. Joan worked as Department Manager for Sears in Fredericton, Saint John and Edmonton. She was an avid knitter who enjoyed traveling. Joan was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and loved to keep track of baseball statistics. Joan is survived by her son, Robert Gillingham (Susan) of Miramichi, NB; daughter-in-law, Anne Gillingham of Fredericton, NB; son-in-law, Philip Toole of Fredericton, NB; brothers, Thomas Symons (Val) and George Symons (Ronnie) both of England; ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her daughter, Frances Toole; son, James Gillingham; sister, Marina Symons, as well as an infant sister, Betty; brother, Charlie Symons. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 from 4-8 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 2 pm with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. Interment will take place in St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery at a later date.
