Obituary of Katherine Lyons
The passing of Katherine “Kaye” Ellen Lyons of Fredericton, NB, occurred on Friday, January 16, 2015 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on September 23, 1928 in Taymouth, NB, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Georgie (Somerville) Stewart. Always energetic and independent, Kaye managed Sutter Salmon Club near Doaktown for more than 40 years. She continued working into her early 80s, entertaining fishermen from across North America with her wit, hospitality and fine Miramichi cooking. Kaye landed countless Atlantic salmon during the many mornings and evenings she spent on the Miramichi River. Fishing and hunting were passions she generously shared with her family, and her home cooking -- especially her roast beef -- was legendary.
Kaye is survived by her daughter, Patricia Kilfillen (Richard); son, Eric Estabrooks; daughter in law, Shauna Estabrooks; grandchildren, Sean Sullivan (Karen Pinchin), Jason Sullivan (Julie McKeen), Dylan Sullivan and Matthew Estabrooks; sisters, Mavis Wood and Jeanne Wall; sister in law, Laura Stewart; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Greta Ross and Betty Campbell; brothers, Wallace and Leslie Stewart.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Monday, January 19, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Celebration of Kaye’s Life will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 11am. Reception will follow in the Fireside Room. Interment will take place in Taymouth Community Cemetery at a later date.
