Obituary of Leslie Butler
The passing of Leslie Allan “Mike” Butler of Fredericton, NB occurred January 4, 2015 with his loving family by his side. Born March 28, 1942 in Moncton, NB, Mike was the son of the late Leslie John and Nora Ann (Daly) Butler. At the age of 3 months his mother nicknamed him “Mike” and was known as such throughout his life.
Mike is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carol (Dancey) Butler; daughters, Susan of Fredericton, NB and Heather (Scott) of Halifax, NS; son, Rodney, of Burnaby, BC. Mike was blessed with three grandsons, Scott McCullough, Nicholas Hogan and Jack Butler. He is also survived by his brother, Jim Butler (Donna) of Moncton, NB; nephews, Jason and Shawn; sister-in-law, Wanda Parrott of Paradise NL; niece, Amanda (Dave) and nephew, Andrew (Janalee); aunts, uncles and numerous cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brother-in-law, William Parrott.
After graduating high school, Mike began working for the Bank of Montreal where he was transferred to several branches within the Maritimes. He finished his banking career as a Branch Manager in Fredericton, NB. In 1978, Mike changed careers and spent 30 years as a realtor retiring with Remax in 2007. Mike was dedicated to the communities wherein he lived. He was involved with many fundraising events such as the annual IWK telethon at the Fredericton Site and the Labatt Relay. He was an active member of many service organizations and received a number of recognition awards: Life Member of the Association of Kinsmen Clubs, President of the Fredericton Real Estate Association, Member of the Fredericton City Club, Charter Member of the Bathurst Kinsmen Club. Mike was a fan of all sports, whether as a player, coach or spectator; he especially enjoyed watching the Detroit Red Wings.
At Mike’s request, a private family service will precede the visitation which will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Friday, January 9, 2015 from 3-7 pm. Interment will take place at Elmwood Cemetery, Moncton, NB at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the IWK Foundation or Canadian Lung Association.
