Life Legacy
The passing of Flora Pearl DeMerchant of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late Gordon DeMerchant, occurred on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at the York Care Center. Born on April 21, 1919 in Maplehurst, NB, she was the daughter of the late Alonzo and Martha (Walton) Hawthorn. Flora was a retired school teacher, having taught school in Bath, NB. She was a past member of the Teachers Association (New Brunswick SRT).
Flora is survived by her daughter, Marilyn DeMerchant (Ian Robertson) of Fredericton, NB; sons, Garnet DeMerchant (JoAnne) of Fredericton, NB and Bryon DeMerchant (Joyce) of Woodstock, NB; granddaughter, Carla Stone (Greg); grandsons, Todd (Susan), Ian (Danica), Jeffrey (April) and Nick (Shelley) DeMerchant; great grandchildren, Dillon, Brooke, Abbey, Autumn, Avery, Ty, Josie, Jorgia, Celia, Jake and Libby; great great grandson, Noah; niece, Phyllis Ibrahim. Besides her parents and husband, Flora was predeceased by her grandson, Andrew DeMerchant; daughter in law, Polly DeMerchant; sister, Edith Biggar; and brother, Wallace Hawthorn.
A Memorial Service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 10:30 am with Rev. Peter Thomas officiating. Interment will take place in Pine Tree Cemetery, Bath, NB at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the York Care Foundation.
