Obituary of Ashley Yerxa
The passing of Ashley Aulder Yerxa of Keswick, NB, occurred on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the Veterans Health Unit, Fredericton NB. Born on April 27, 1925 in Keswick, NB, he was the son of the late Newton and Amelia (Christie) Yerxa. Ashley was a veteran of WWII. Following the war Ashley worked for the Department of Natural Resources for eight years, then with the Department of National Defence, Gagetown, NB for 29 1/2 years. He was formerly a member of the Keswick Baptist Church, attended Douglas Baptist Church and was a former member of the Keswick Cemetery Committee. Ashley was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 59, Millville, former President and Honorary President; actively worked with the Poppy Fund for 25 years; he was honoured with MSN and MSA Legion Awards and also received the Palm Leaf. He was a former President of the Burtts Corner Lions Club. Ashley enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. Ashley was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Ashley is survived by his son, Paul Yerxa; grandchildren, Mark Yerxa (Wendy), Laurie Morehouse, Erica Brewer (Chris) and Amy Yerxa; two chosen grandchildren, Jennifer Hudgins and Mitchell Brewer; great grandchildren, Ryan (Kristin), Zachary, Megan, Mikayla and Ethan; great-great-grandson, Cayden; sister-in-law, Kathleen Yerxa; good friend, Jocelyn Brewer; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Helen and parents, Ashley was predeceased by a son, Garry; daughter-in-law, Gale Yerxa; brothers, Bruce, Byron and infant brother Edwin.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at 2 pm with Rev. Peter Moore officiating. Interment will take place in Keswick Cemetery. Due to health issues, the family requests a scent-free environment for the visitation and service.
