Obituary of Donald Bilensky
We are saddened to announce the passing of Don Bilensky, husband of Betty (Anthony) Bilensky on Friday, July 11, 2014 at the Oromocto Public Hospital. Born in Fredericton, NB on November 27, 1928, he was the son of the late Carl and Hazel (Parker) Bilensky.
In addition to his wife, Don is survived by his daughter, Karen (Danny) Long; son, Brian Bilensky; four grandchildren, Jeff (Katie) Long, Greg Long (Linda), Chris Bilensky (Tamara) and Mitch Bilensky; two great grandchildren, Sophie and Walter Long; he is also survived by his sister, Gloria Munn; sister in law, Eleanor Bilensky; two brothers in law, Ross (Jean) Anthony and Burdell Anthony; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Charles; brother in law, Fred Munn; sister in law, Doreen Anthony and his grandson’s wife, Cassandra Long.
Don owned and operated Bilensky Insurance for many years. He was an auxiliary member of the RCMP, Past President of the Northside Rotary Club, and a member of several organizations and clubs. Don had a zest for life and lived life to the fullest. He loved to fish and hunt and was an excellent cook and story teller. He also loved to travel particularly in Canada, as well as spend time at the cottage with family and friends. He loved people and made friends wherever he went. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The family wishes to give a special thank you to the Doctors, Nurses and staff of the Oromocto Hospital – Palliative Care Unit, for the excellent care provided during his stay.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Monday, July 14, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Special memories of Don will be shared at a Celebration of Life Service at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 1 pm. A reception will follow at the Loyalist Rugby Club, 40 Cityview Avenue. Interment will take place in Sunny Bank Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations in Don’s memory may be made to the SPCA or the Alzheimer Society. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
