Obituary of Helen Davidson

Peacefully, after 105 years of faithful love and service to her family and friends, Helen Blanche Davidson (nee Saunders) passed to her heavenly reward to join her beloved husband, Ralph; parents, Charles and Dolly (Evans) Saunders; eight siblings and daughter-in-law, Margaret (Budgell). A quiet reserved person, she will be remembered as a tireless worker and for her devotion to her family and to the Anglican Church. She was not adventuresome but her loyalty to her husband and children took her from New Brunswick to Ontario and back to NB in retirement, ending her journey in Grand Manan, NB. Blanche is survived by two sons, Ronald (Bonnie) in Lakefield, ON and Donald (Marjorie) in Grand Manan, NB. She will also be sorely missed by grandchildren, Suzanne Steele (Rob), Heather Davidson (Glenn), Beverley Deeth (Tom), Mark Davidson (Deborah), Scott Davidson (Kelly) and Todd Davidson; 11 great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by sister, Bertha Hayes. Blanche’s influence was felt far and wide. A practical person, she was a role model for relatives and friends. Her Christian spirit and her tireless hospitality was encountered by all who stopped by for a visit. Her grandchildren remember so many of her loving traits, her whistling, her singing of hymns, her tender care of the Chico dogs. She was especially fond of Kitty who followed her around when she lived in Peterborough and who reminded her when it was time to get ready for bed, then slept outside her door. A wonderful cook and baker of pies and oatmeal cookies, she added pounds of enjoyment to family and friends. Bird songs pleased her and her favourite was the cardinal, a replica of which has been on her room door for years. Blanche was loved and respected by all, especially the staff at the Grand Manan Nursing Home where she lived for her last few years and where she received excellent care. God bless her and may flights of angels sing her to her rest. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Thursday, May 15, 2014 from 6-8 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 1 pm with Rev. Canon Ronald Davidson officiating. Interment will be in the Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Grand Manan Nursing Home Foundation or the charity of the donor’s choice.
