Obituary of Douglas Hoyt

The passing of George Douglas “Doug” Hoyt, husband of the late Anne (Blaney) Hoyt of Fredericton, NB occurred on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at home. Born at the family homestead in Hainesville, NB on December 25, 1938, Doug was the son of the late George and Pauline (MacKay) Hoyt. Doug worked on the family farm for most of his early years. His career as a meat cutter began on Keswick Ridge and later with Atlantic Wholesalers in Saint John. He continued with the company when he moved his family to Fredericton and later finished his career as the meat manager at the Devon Park Save-Easy. Doug was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church and enjoyed helping out at the church with activities such as ushering. Doug’s greatest enjoyment came from working in the woods, hunting, fishing and being with friends and family. Doug was truly at home when he spent time on the farm. Doug is survived by his son, Scott Hoyt (Christy) and granddaughters, Olivia and Bridgette Hoyt of Sussex Corner, NB; sister, Liz Beveridge (Bill) of Saint John, nieces Kelley Thompson (Randy) of Saint John, NB and Kathy Ames (Arthur) of Mactaquac, NB, and their families. Doug was a man of simple Christian faith who valued honest friendship, hard work and family. He was the quiet rock to his wife, son and grandchildren. His encouragement, values and love will remain in good memories and enduring heritage. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 11 am with Rev. Paul Thompson and Pastor Doug Hapeman officiating. Interment will be at the Upper Hainesville Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Upper Hainesville Cemetery Fund or a charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com.
