Mersereau, John William “Bill”
The family of John William “Bill” Mersereau is sad to announce his passing on March 29, 2014 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. He was born March 11, 1929 in Blackville, NB to the late Burton and Jane (MacDougall) Mersereau. He loved to tell stories of growing up on the farm and working in the woods with his father. He spent several years as a school bus driver in Blackville. He then moved to Fredericton and spent the next 25 years employed with Cowperthwaite Rentals. Bill loved music and he will be remembered for his ability to pick up an instrument and teach himself how to play it. He was a kind and gentle soul and loved a good laugh.
He is survived by his best friend, Rosina Long; children, Kevin Mersereau of Fredericton, NB, John Mersereau of Saint John, NB and Lana Mersereau of Fredericton, NB and their mother, Gracie Mersereau of Fredericton, NB; sister, Jean (Lanny) MacPhail of Toronto, ON; brother, Burton “Junior” Mersereau (Vera) of Blackville, NB; brother-in-law, Albert Cowperthwaite of Fredericton, NB; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by his brother, Victor Mersereau; sisters, Isabel Mersereau, Jessie McMillan, Glorna Connors and Grace Cowperthwaite.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Memorial Service will be held from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at 2 pm with Pastor Greg Geldart officiating. Interment will take place in Blackville, NB at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
