Obituary of Anne Wrynn

The peaceful passing of Anne Elizabeth Wrynn occurred on Monday, February 10, 2014 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Anne was born in Saint John, New Brunswick on May 9, 1948; she was the daughter of James Leonard and Elizabeth (Magee) Maxwell. Anne is survived by her husband of forty years, F.Allison Wrynn; her two sons, Colin Allison of Ottawa, Ontario and Ian Patrick of Prince George, British Columbia; her nieces, Susan Maxwell of Woodstock, New Brunswick and Karen McEachern of Edmonton, Alberta; her brothers and sisters- in-law, Edward and Gladys Wrynn of Edmonton, Alberta and Connie and John Buki of Montreal, Quebec; Sister Charlotte Lockhart; and her cousin, Sister Valerie Owens. Anne was predeceased by her parents and her twin brothers, John and David Maxwell. Anne attended St. Vincent High School in Saint John where she not only excelled in her overall studies, but also scored the highest mark in the province on her Biology Metric. She attended the University of New Brunswick in Saint John for two years and in Fredericton for two additional years. During that time, together with Ann-Marie McGrath, Anne made a presentation to the Senate Commission on Poverty. Upon graduation from UNB, she was employed as a Social Worker in the Saint Stephen area. She then transferred to Saint John to work with delinquent teen-age girls. During this time, she married Allison, and together, they moved to Fredericton where Anne continued employment as a Social Worker with a focus on adoption. She met and worked with Mrs. Nutter. Afterward, Anne focused on staying at home to care for her sons, Colin and Ian. She also began volunteering at the Saint Theresa Roman Catholic Church, specifically in the Religious Education Programs. Later, she was asked to work part-time at the church as Pastoral Associate, and she continued in the position until complications from a brain tumor ended this truly rewarding part of her life. It was during those years that the pastor passed away, and until a new permanent priest was appointed, Anne ensured that the parishers had an acting priest for Mass every weekend. After her retirement from the church, Anne continued to battle what developed into two brain tumors. She will always be remembered for her strength, her resilience, her infectious smile, and her commitment to her husband, sons, family, Church, and God. Our family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff of the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital for their kindness, professionalism, dedication and attentiveness when dealing with Anne’s illness. A special thanks to Dr. Gordon McDonald for his constant availability and concern. A further thanks to Anne’s surgeon Dr. Dhany Charest; oncologist Dr. Andree Lirett, Dr. Pierrre Whitlock of the Oncology Center at the Georges Dumont Hospital, and Dr. Karen Broad, and Dr. G. Anan of the DECRH Oncology. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Thursday, February 13, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church on Friday, February 14, 2014 at 11am with Father Donald Savoie and Father Angus Johnston as celebrants. Reception will follow in the Anne Wrynn Hall. Interment will take place in St. Anthony’s Cemetery at a later date.
