Dear Betty, Ralph, Roger, Carl, Duncan and Darrock,
Your mother was a wonderful woman. I have never met anyone whose generous personality made a greater impact on me. I stayed with your family taking Grade 11 when you were all little children around her knees and ankles. How she ever had the time and patience to welcome me into your home, I'll never know. It was only after having children of my own did I fully appreciate what a generous act that was. Yet she had such charm and refinement that it seemed effortless for her. I never saw her lose patience ever through that whole year.
As Carl says, she showed us how to live and now she has shown us how to die.
Rest in peace Aunt Vera.
With love,
Joan and Randell

Dear Betty, Ralph, Roger, Carl, Duncan and Darroch,
We were so very sorry to hear of Aunt Vera's illness and passing. We have missed seeing her in the last few years but kept in touch with letters every few months. Eighty six is a wonderful age but losing your Mom is still very sad - life is never the same. You have many wonderful memories that will bring comfort in the weeks and months ahead. She would want to be remembered with a smile.

It was a blessing to have Vera in the Nazarene Church congregation while I pastored there from 2004 to 2008. She had an unshakable faith. I enjoyed the many visits to her and her sister Dorthey.
Vera always had something new to show me in her garden and many times sent me home with a new plant for our garden.
Her very kind gentle personality will be missed.

Toni and I became fast friends with Vera when we met at Paradise Villa. With all of us being from Newfoundland we had that connection with Home and we found we had so much in common it wasn't difficult for us to become good friends. That coupled with the fact that Vera was such a warm, considerate and giving person made it very easy for us to fall in love with her right from the start.
When I worked at Paradise Villa I would make it a point to look in on her every day and we would sit and talk about home and growing up in Newfoundland. Needless to say Vera loves her family very much and she loved to take out her photo albums and show me pictures of her home and her children from the early days right through to the present. The old Christmas pictures seemed to be her favorite.
Vera told me she loved to read and when her eyesight began to weaken she would ask me if I would read a verse or passage from the Bible or from her Daily Bread book and after the reading we would sit and talk about what it meant or about how amazing some of the stories were. I really felt privliged that she would ask me to read for her and it was my pleasure to be able to do it.
Vera is such a beautiful lady in so many ways that I felt very lucky to be able to spend time with her and enjoy her company and that's something I'm going to miss very much. Vera is in a much better place and her ordeal is over and she handled it all with such grace and dignity. Toni and I would like to thank Vera very much for considering us her friends and for sharing her remaining days with us.
Our sincere condolences go out to her family and her sister Dorothy, also our friend.
