Obituary of Viola Davidson

The family of Viola Agnes Davidson announces her passing at the York Care Center on Thursday, December 12, 2013. Born in Nackawic, NB on September 28, 1913, Viola was the wife of the late George “Albert” Davidson and daughter of the late Thomas McGuire and Emma (Essensa) McGuire. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Viola was a kind and loving woman who treated everyone with respect. She was a member of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church and a life-time member of the CWL. As a young woman she was employed as a clerk in the local store in Nackawic. After marriage, she became a homemaker and mother to four children. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. In later years, Viola took care of children for vacationing couples who need a reliable and responsible caregiver, for up to several weeks at a time. She became a surrogate ‘grandmother’ for a number of local families through this endeavour. Viola is survived by her three sons, Michael (Pat), Willard (Mary), Paul (Susie) of Fredericton, NB and one daughter, Mary Anne Guenther of Courtney, BC. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, two step grandchildren, six great grandchildren and five step great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Earle (Annetta) McGuire and her sisters, Kathleen McGuire and Annie (John) Martin. Viola resided at York Care Centre for nearly five years, where she was looked after by caring and compassionate staff. The family is grateful for the care that Viola received during the last years of her life. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Monday, December 16, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held from St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at 11 am with Father John Jennings as celebrant. Honourary Pallbearers will be Chris and Tommy Davidson and Matthew Guenther. Interment will take place in St. Simon and St. Jude Catholic Cemetery, Nackawic, NB. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada or the charity of the donor’s choice.
