Obituary of George Merrithew

The passing of George Nelson Merrithew of Fredericton, NB, husband of the late Phyllis (Edmondson) Merrithew occurred on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on November 6, 1927 in Douglas, NB, he was the son of the late William and Retta (McCoy) Merrithew. George was a retired Heavy Equipment Operator and Truck Driver with the Department of Agriculture. In his early years, he loved to take his family camping. George enjoyed stock cars, wrestling and was an avid music fan. George is survived by his children, Nancy (Vic) Stitham, Faye (Peter) Walker, Ron (Sue) Merrithew, John (Sara) Merrithew, Phyllis (Ralph Jr.) Turnbull, Angel (Ken) Hughson and Jane (Wesley) Shepard; grandchildren, Jamie, Stephanie (Dave), Scott (Tasha), Ashley (Robert), Amanda (Cody), Jennifer, Zack, Shalta, Meaghan and Alex (Sherri); great grandchildren, Cody, Alexis, Summer and Brady; sister, Eleanor (Ralph) Pugh of Lakeland, FL; several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his son, Billy; brothers, Earl, Stanley, Fred and Edward. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Thursday, December 5, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Memorial Service will take place at Douglas Baptist Church on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 11am with Rev. Peter Moore officiating. Honourary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Interment will take place in Dayton Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer Society or the Canadian Cancer Society.
