Obituary of Paul Fields

Paul Fields of Fredericton, NB, husband and best friend for 43 years of Annette (O’Neill) Fields, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday, November 29, 2013 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on August 10, 1948 in East Chezzetcook, NS, he was the son of Marjorie (Richards) and the late Stanley Fields. Paul was the Office Manager for Prospect Physiotherapy for the past 14 years. He also spent 23 years as a Retail Store Manager with the Hudson’s Bay Company and Metropolitan Stores of Canada. Paul was also a member of the Fredericton Real Estate Board for many years. In addition to his professional life, Paul participated in a number of community activities. He was an avid curler and member of The Kinsmen Club. Always wanting to play an active role in his children’s lives, Paul was a Cub Scout Leader (Baloo), a minor hockey coach in two provinces (Ontario and New Brunswick), and later in life he was an “auto mechanic”, “general contractor”, and all around “Dad will do it!”. Paul was a “Rock and Roll” enthusiast, which included playing drums and guitar in bands and generating a massive collection of music albums, instruments, stereo equipment and artifacts. He also had a lifelong passion for cars. He enjoyed going to car shows, classic car festivals and tinkering away on whatever vehicle he had in the garage. Paul could tell you the make and model of every car on the road. His favourites being a 57’ Chevy and his little red Miata (Slainte). Paul was fortunate to have been well travelled in his life, both within and outside of Canada. He and Annette lived across Canada from the West Coast all the way to East and visited every province at some point in between. With In-laws all over the world, Paul also had the opportunity to make several trips overseas. Besides his wife, Paul is survived by his daughter, Erin Troost (Dave) of Bowmanville, ON; sons, Ryan of Oshawa, ON and Darcy (Bobbi-Jo) of Port Perry, ON; granddaughter and apple of her Papa’s eye, Molly. His sister, Coreen Smith (Alan)of Dartmouth, NS; brother, Terry Fields (Sandra) of Dartmouth, NS; sister-in-law, Dr. Sheila MacKay (Hugh) of Sydney, AU; brothers-in-law, Tony O’Neill (Mary) of London, England, Brain O’Neill (Latifa) of Nigeria and Dr. Hugh O’Neill (Julie) of Norwich, England; as well as several nieces and nephews. A Private Family Service will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB.
