Obituary of Gordon Sturgeon

The passing of Gordon Joseph Sturgeon of Fredericton, NB, husband of Inez (Bransfield) Sturgeon occurred on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on February 9, 1933 in Dalhousie, NB, he was the son of the late Lyall and Caroline (Grattan) Sturgeon. He retired as an accountant at NB Power. Gordon was an active member of the St. Anthony’s Parish and was highly active with Pastoral Care at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Cursillo Movement and Christopher Leadership. He was a Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons, Vincent (Kelly) Sturgeon of Fredericton, NB, Vaughn Sturgeon of Rexton, NB and Sean Sturgeon (Tanya) of Miramichi City, NB; grandchildren, Connor, Mariah, Turner, Rebecca, Hunter, Allison, Abigael, Lauren and Shelby; sister, Jackie (Sherman) Esliger of Kingston, ON; brothers, Everett (Bernice) of On A Knoll, MN and Lyle Jr. of Qu’Apelle, SK; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his infant son, Anthony; sisters, Lolly Halfpenny and Patricia Poirier; brothers, Gerald, Clinton, Cyril and Thomas Sturgeon; half sisters, Thelma Fournier and Greta McLaughlin. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Friday, October 25, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 11 am with Father Monte Peters as celebrant. Pallbearers for the service will be his sons, Vincent, Vaughn and Sean and grandsons, Connor, Turner and Hunter. Interment will take place in St. Anthony’s Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick or the Canadian Diabetes Association. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
