Obituary of Doreen Grinstead
On Wednesday, September 18, 2013 Doreen Peggie (Hopkins) Grinstead of Fredericton, NB, passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on June 3, 1923 in England, she was the daughter of the late Percy and Lily (Cochrane) Hopkins. Doreen proudly served her country in WWII, as a Visual Signaler in the W.R.N.S., stationed in South Wales. She immigrated to Canada as a War Bride in 1945. She worked at The Playhouse Theatre from 1964 to 1978 and then went to work at NB Tourism, until she retired in 1988.
Doreen is survived by her son, David Grinstead (Vickie) of Australia; daughters, Jill Grinstead of Fredericton, NB and Jane Grinstead (Joe) of Keswick Ridge, NB; grandchildren, Jennifer Chafe (Curtis), Christopher Hovey (Doralee), Patrick Webber, Gregory Webber (Tanya) and Valerie Webber (Antoine); great grandchildren, Evan, Cameron and Landon Hovey and Rebecca Chafe; niece and nephews, Linda Coombe, Graham and Ian Kirk all of England; great niece and nephew, Gemma and Kirk. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Muriel Kirk and son in law, Brian Gorman.
A Tribute Service will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to UNICEF. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
