Obituary of Millicent Blakney

Blakney, Millicent Mary passed away peacefully in the compassionate and highly professional care of the Palliative Care Unit at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on July 27, 2013. Millicent (Millie) was born on March 31, 1923 in Castleton, Derbyshire, England and at the age of 7 she and her family settled at Boyd's Corner, New Brunswick. During her life time she had the opportunity to live in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, places where she always enjoyed their natural beauty. Upon her retirement she relocated to Stanley NB where for many years she enjoyed walking and skiing in a natural environment that she loved. She was truly enthralled with what nature had to offer. A dedicated mother, she always found time to volunteer her time to community organizations and church activities. Predeceased by her husband Lawrence, her brother John and parents John and Ethel Chamberlain; she is survived by her daughter Rae Holmes (Glenn), son John (Pat), granddaughters: Andrea, ChrisAnne, Tamara, six (6) great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Millicent has requested cremation and made a special request for a small service with family and friends at her graveside at St. James Anglican Church in Tay Creek, NB on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 11:00am with Rev. Lidvald Haugen-Strand. A reception will be held after the service at St. Thomas Church, Stanley, NB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fredericton SPCA, Chalmers Foundation (Palliative Care) or a charity of the Donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
