Obituary of Kenneth Machin

Kenneth Edward Machin of Ste. Anne’s Court, Fredericton, New Brunswick, born June 8, 1921 at Derby, England passed away at Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, Fredericton on July 9, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Stillwell (née Monteith); step children; step grandchildren and one step great grandchild; several great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Mabel (née Swift) Machin; his sister, Helen (Stanley) Freestone; one nephew, Dr. David Stanley Freestone and his first wife, Florence “Anne” Machin. Professor Machin was educated as an engineer at the University of London, and completed graduate studies at Cape Town, South Africa. He was a retired Professor of Mechanical Engineering at University of New Brunswick where he taught for many years; prior to which he taught Mechanical Engineering at Cape Town. He was very active in animal welfare, and was for many years President of the Fredericton Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. He was a devout Anglican and long-time member of the congregation of the St. Peter’s Anglican Church on Woodstock Road. During World War II he served in the British Home Guard, participating in the manufacture of war material. In his early life he spent summers at Guernsey Island, and there became proficient in French. The Funeral Service will be held at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 2:30 pm officiated by Canon Thomas A. Smith. After the service, there will be a reception at the Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery, Fredericton at a later date.
