Obituary of Gladys Arnold

The passing of Gladys Lola Arnold of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late Harold Arnold, occurred on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on August 13, 1925 in Marysville, NB, she was the daughter of the late Wendall and Freda (Bradford) Estabrooks. Gladys worked in the office of the Marysville Cotton Mill for nine years, then Centennial Print and Litho for five years; she retired in 1991 as a Finance Clerk for the Canada Employment Centre. She was a member of Marysville Baptist Church and was the church treasurer for many years. Gladys was involved in church activities such as the Ladies’ Morning Out Group, the Mission Circle and was a life member of the Women’s Missionary Society. Gladys sang in the choir for over forty years and was part of the Ladies Trio, mixed Quartet and sang duet for many years with her best friend, Annie Hoar. She and her husband spent many great summers at their summer place on Grand Lake. The family wishes to give special thanks to caregiver, Kim Arsenault, for all the extra things she did for mom. Gladys is survived by her three daughters, Susan Brown (Russell) of Apohaqui, NB, Wendy Duffy (Barry) of Fredericton, NB and Nancy Gillingham of Denwood, AB; son, Tony Arnold (Kate) of Fredericton, NB; 11 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; sisters, Betty King and Pat Hamilton both of Kingsclear, NB; brother in law, Charles “Buster” Poore; several nieces and nephews and her special friend, Annie Hoar. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Eileen Poore; infant sister, Myrtle; five brothers, James, Keith, Kenneth, Wendall Jr. and Paul Estabrooks; brother in law, Gordon King. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Friday, June 14, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at Marysville Baptist Church on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 2 pm with Rev. Dr. Peter Sherwood officiating and Rev. Ralph Irving assisting. Interment will take place in Marysville United Baptist Church Cemetery.
