Obituary of Everett Edward O'Neill

The passing of Everett Edward O'Neill of Fredericton, NB, husband of Mary Dorothy (Pringle-Matthews) O'Neill, occurred on Friday, August 23, 2024 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on September 5, 1932 in Sorrel Ridge, NB, he was the son of the late Florence (Lord) and Francis O'Neill. Everett worked in road and building construction and retired from Forbes and Sloat Construction Company after 43 years. He was a wonderful caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, and a well-respected member of the community where he made many friends over the years. He enjoyed travelling, fishing, dancing and especially loved family gatherings.

Besides his loving wife of 22 years, Everett is survived by his son, Steven O'Neill (Grace) of Oliver, BC; daughters, Brenda Cummings (late Ric) of Fredericton, NB, Colleen O'Neill (Gerry Murray) of Ulverston, UK, Michele O'Neill (Allan Shortt) of Dartmouth, NS; step-daughter, Ellen Matthews of Toronto, ON; step-son, Don Matthews of Port Moody, BC and his daughter, Kehli; grandchildren, Laura Cummings of Ottawa, ON, Hillary Rees of Victoria, BC, Megan Cummings of Fredericton, NB, Nuala Murray, UK, Derek and Adam O'Neill of Vancouver, BC; great-grandchildren, Quinn Somers, Finley and Mackenzie Rees; step-grandchildren, Cormac Murray, UK, Lorcan Murray, Netherlands and Antoine Murray, Germany; step-great-grandson, Oskar; sister, Frances Dicks of Mississauga, ON; brother-in-law, Allan Pringle (Donna) of Fredericton, NB; sisters-in-law, Jean Barker of Fredericton, NB and Phyllis Rath of London, ON and several nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his first wife, Pearle (Fisher) in 1986; sister, Nellie O'Neill; brothers, Dan and Benny O'Neill and brother-in-law, Bill Dicks.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Lacey Blyth and the nurses and staff of 4SE at the DECRH for their thoughtfulness, care and compassion.

Visitation will be held at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Thursday, August 29, 2024 from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8pm. The Funeral Mass will take place at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 603 Union Street, Fredericton, NB on Friday, August 30, 2024 at 11am with Father Maria Arokiam Chinnappan officiating. Interment will take place in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery, Fredericton, NB with reception to follow at the church.
