I will forever remember Leo for our baseball camping trips. This memory always comes to mind........it was in Woodstock, NB, and there were torrential rains overnight with flash flooding and Leo comes crawling out of the tent and says "I thought it was time to get up when I realized my air mattress was floating". Always fun loving, and everyone loved being around him. The world was a better place with him in it. Love to all his family and friends.

I’m shocked and saddened by Leo’s death. I first met him at the UNB Department of Forestry in the late 1970s, where we were both employed. He and I operated the first UNB minisonde station at Petersville in CFB Gagetown in July 1978. Shortly after that, I completed an MScF degree with Leo as a member of my supervisory committee. In 1982, he and I were members of a baseball expedition to Montreal where we attended 4 Expos games. During 1985-1990, Leo and I served together as members of the Nashwaaksis Y’s Men’s Club. I and my family moved away from Fredericton in the early 1990s and I lost touch with the Burns family. But I’ve never forgotten the important role Leo played in my life from the late 1970s to the early 1990s, and I’m grateful for his friendship and helpfulness.

Condolences to all the family. Leo took me under his wing as my first baseball coach. Marysville would not let me play, saying I was too young. Leo said, come to Nashwaaksis and you can play for me, so I did. I played with John and idolized him for many years to come. Thanks Leo.

John, Michael and family: please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of Leo. Had the pleasure of knowing Leo for over 40 years and can honestly say that he was one of the nicest men i have ever had the pleasure of knowing and was proud to consider him a friend. My father, Ike, who ran the Nasis Arena always made time for your Mom to use the ice when she wanted and he spoke very highly of Leo. We had many long chats at the Nasis Arena and on the ballfields of Nasis and it was always his manner to encourage others and help others in any way he could. He was part of the great Nasis Mafia, as they were affectionatly known as, Frank MacLoon, Ernie McFadzen, Lyle Smith, George Wood, Peter Vaughan,Gary Ross just to name a few and Leo was one of them. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Embrace the memories as they will help see you through this difficult time. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
