Obituary of Gracie Florence Greene

Please share a memory of Gracie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Gracie Florence Greene of Fredericton, NB, beloved wife of the late James (Freddie) Greene, passed away on August 16, 2024, at Dr. Everett Chalmer's Regional Hospital, Fredericton, NB. She was born on August 19, 1929, in Parker’s Ridge, NB, and was the cherished daughter of the late Ada (Calhoun) and Stuart (Ted) Spencer.

Gracie leaves behind her loving family; daughters, Myrna Greene of Fredericton, Angela Greene of Fredericton, and Michelle Arbeau (Jason) of Upper Blackville; grandchildren, Jarrett Arbeau (Rebecca) and Marissa Arbeau (Ryan Hallihan); great-grandson, Colten Arbeau; brothers, Terry Spencer (Ethel) of Holtville and LeRoy Spencer (Joyce) of Fredericton; sister, Dixie Lee Folkins (Laurence) of Sussex, as well as several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband and parents, Gracie was predeceased by her children; Dale Carla, Terry Grahame, and Rose Marie Greene; brothers, Jean, Bertie, Dell, Blaine, Vaughan, Reg and Calvin Spencer; and sisters, Betty Black and Jacquetta Fowler.

Gracie was a devoted homemaker; she and Freddie raised their children and grandchildren and also selflessly took in other children in the community when support was needed. She also was an incredible cook and was known for her delicious potato salad, which resembled a work of art. Gracie loved Boiestown's annual Wagon Train Event, where she contributed and doled out hotdogs to the attendees each year. She was a member of the Bloomfield Ridge United Church and the Boiestown Legion. Gracie was a history enthusiast, especially in the world of Hollywood’s Golden Era movies. She had an impressive collection of 600 VHS video tapes and a passion for dancing. Gracie often kept her family and friends entertained with her outstanding long-term memory and stories of long ago. In her retirement, she would often be seen wearing a stylish hat and walking with her shopping cart while frequenting the local businesses of uptown Fredericton. Anyone in Gracie’s company would often burst into unexpected gales of laughter due to her quick wit, sweet and sassy comebacks, and animated gestures. She had an unforgettable presence and will be sadly missed by all who met her.

A private graveside service for immediate family and loved ones will be held at a later date with Pastor Chris Bennett officiating. For those who wish, donations in Gracie's memory can be made to Pine Grove Nursing Home or a charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be shared at www.yorkfh.com
