In 1972, I could not get a summer job because of poor marks and no geological experience. I worked with Don for no pay in order to get the experience. The next year Walt van de Poll was looking for a student and he hired me. His reasoning was that anyone who would work for nothing must be worth something.
I worked in Natural Resources for a few years and a chance to work at NB Coal. I returned to Natural Resource and was appointed as the Recorder under the Ming Act .
I joined Alcoholics Anonymous on June 29, 1991. I call that my dry date and that is a date I do not want change.
I am retired with very few bills and a good pension.
I have 3 great grandchildren who will arrive from Oshawa this week. My son is their grand father so they call me grampy two

Don and I had a lot of great experiences together. I first met Don at the CWC and he already new my brother John so he was not sure about me. Fortunately for me Don realized I was different then my brother and we became great friends. Curling in the winter and visits to the Harts Lake camp in the summer. He got me to the church on time for my marriage to Brenda. We celebrated the birth of Katherine and Jennie. Don loved being on the water but I think his preference was boats with motors because he seemed to end up capsized in sailboats and rowing shells. Don liked to be active and when things got slow around the city he would come to my farm looking for things to do. A little work, a little play and a lot of stories. He was like a boy when it came to tractors you couldn't keep him off. Recently he said get me a tractor to drive I don't need a license to drive a tractor. I will miss seeing the little blue truck coming in the driveway. Joyce, Mike, James and Rob our sincere condolences.

My sympathies to Joyce and family. I met Don when he was coaching minor hockey in the mid 90's, my son Keith was on the team as well as Robbie. He was sincere, old school and lead the players to enjoying hockey and trying their best and had excellent rapport with parents . I will forever have fond memories of that time.

I extend sympathy to Joyce and her family on Don's passing. My first contact with Don was in 1970 when he was a graduate instructor in mineralogy labs at UNB in 1970. He was also my "boss" for a time in the 1980s when we were employees at NB Natural Resources. I always appreciated Don's management style. He allowed his staff to use their strengths, and never attempted to micromanage them. We also worked cooperatively on several contracts/projects when Don was the owner/president of Three-D Geoconsultants. In that regard, there are a lot of good memories from our shared past. I hope the memories of your life together will help you, Joyce, and your family to get through your loss. With kind regards...Clint St. Peter

Joyce and Family-
Sincere sympathies on Don's passing. Don was an instructor at UNB when I was an undergrad in geology. We later worked together for several years on a peat project at DNR, and subsequently as consultants with Three-D. Don was a long time volunteer at Capital Winter Club and devoted a huge amount of time to curling and CWC. We enjoyed many post curling beverages and were always entertained by his tales. He also was a volunteer hockey coach for one of our sons. There are many good memories and lots of stories. Please accept our condolences on your loss.

Sorry to hear of Don's passing. I have fond memories working with and for Don during various periods in the 70s, 80s and 90s. He was a calming and steadying influence during those times for us young guys starting out. Thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

I will always remember curling against Don at the CWC. But the best memories that I have and will always keep in my heart is when Donnie was picked as the coach of our 1987 Mixed National Curling team (Team McCann). Joyce tagged along and we had the best time ever. My husband will always remember the fun and trouble him and Donnie got into when Bob did catering at the CWC, Anne Grant had her hands full with those two. May God give u the strength you all need at this sad time ❤️

Don will be sadly missed by all who knew him, as a Geologist as a business man and a friend. In the 50 years that I have known him I have seen him in many roles client and friend as a colleague, clent and friend. I rememder him for his calling the bingo on television, for supporting my campaign for mayor of Fredericton with the catch phrae that I was not just a pretty face, and more than thirty years of Old Kootz Thusday lunches at the Lunar Rogue.

I am saddened to hear of Don's passing. He was always such a big part of the CWC, as a curler and as a very devoted member. His willingness to help with anything needed to keep the club running prompted me to tease him with the Ghost Busters theme . Need something in the ice shed fixed, posters and draws for big events, pick up of liquor orders, setting up and taking down after events, bidding large amounts for a pie at our auctions, cook many meals? Who you gonna call? Don of course.....although he rarely needed to be asked ....he just got the job done !
Condolences to Don's family...he will be missed for sure.
