BROWN, Charles Richard “Rick”

The family of Charles Richard “Rick” Brown, husband of Anne (Rioux) Brown, is sad to announce his passing on May 16, 2024 at Hospice Fredericton after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on December 5, 1943 in Fredericton, NB to the late Charles and Madeline (Savage) Brown.

Rick graduated from Fredericton High School in 1964 and went on to Saint John Tech School and graduated from there in 1965. He began his working career with NBTel and spent the first six years in Woodstock, New Brunswick and the next 28 years in Fredericton.

At age 55 Rick retired and began to learn to cook from his mother making preserves and pickles. A skill he loved right to the end. His love of cooking grew into making breads of all kinds which he loved to share with family, friends and anyone who wanted to try.

Rick was a lifelong Anglican and member of the St. Mary’s Church where he served on the Vestry at one time. In his spare time, he liked to volunteer with several organizations such as Harvest Time Ministries where he packed groceries and delivered food to the migrant worker camps in Florida, born to read literacy program, in Fredericton, school lunch program through his church and computers for schools.

His wife Anne retired six years after his retirement, where they were able to spend more time on their hobbies, which included kayaking and bird watching. Rick was also able to spend more time on his favourite hobby, wildlife photography. Anne’s love of travel, his passion for photography of wildlife took them to 60 countries around the world including safaris in Africa seeing the big five. Each year included at least a trip to Florida to Kayak for part of the winter.

Rick and Anne were best friends and lifelong partners for 57 years, 48 years as world travellers.

Besides his wife, Rick is survived by his children, Brian of Miramichi, and Shawna of NB; son-in-law, David Verburgh; grandson, Cody Verburgh, both of Fredericton; sisters, Thea Waterhouse of Fredericton, and Charlene Sayre of Ottawa; sister-in-law, Lilianne Fuller (Tony); brother-in-law, Patrick Rioux; several nieces and nephews; and best friend, Don Oliver (Marion) of Fredericton, NB.

Predeceased by his parents, Charles and Madelene Brown, and brother-in-law, Paul Sayre.

Visitation will be held from St. Mary’s Anglican Church, 780 McEvoy Street, Fredericton, NB on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 from 11:30am – 2pm followed directly by a Memorial Service at 2pm with Rev. Nicholas Saulnier and Rev. Canon Kevin Stockall officiating. Reception to follow the service. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Hospice Fredericton, St. Mary’s Anglican Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences may be offered through yorkfh.com
