Obituary of Elizabeth "Liz" Hawkins
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Helen “Liz” Elizabeth (Waugh) Hawkins of Fredericton, NB which occurred on March 28, 2024 at Windsor Court Retirement Residence. Born in Fredericton, NB on September 22, 1935, and was predeceased by parents, Benjamin O. and Helen I. (Henderson) Waugh; husband, David G. Hawkins; son, Mark C. Hawkins; and half-brothers, Harry Waugh (Muriel) and Theodore Waugh (Lita).
Liz is survived by her sons, Steven Hawkins (Kimberley) and Dale Hawkins (Nancy); daughter-in-law, Dolores Hawkins; grandsons, Bradley Hawkins (Kory), Joshua Hawkins and Alex Hawkins (Gisele); great grandchildren, Bridgette Hawkins and Tru Hawkins; chosen sister and cherished pen pal since age 11, Jill Girling of England.
Liz spent her life raising her beloved family in Douglas, NB. In the early days Liz and Dave loaded up the travel trailer on weekends and toured various camping locations around New Brunswick and the New England States. Lifelong friendships grew from trailering experiences, perhaps none more than those enjoyed for decades at the Mobile Sportsman’s Club on the Miramichi River in Ludlow, NB. Liz and Dave devoted their careers to building and managing Dave Hawkins Real Estate Ltd. which led to many local, national, and international, Canadian Real Estate Association responsibilities. They always shared their love of New Brunswick in business travels which took them to many destinations.
Liz was a member of Nashwaaksis United Church and UCW.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff and care givers at Windsor Court Retirement Residence where Liz called home for the last 7 years, Dr. Kathleen Clarkson and also the Palliative Care Team.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 from 2-4 pm; followed by a Memorial Service at 4 pm officiated by Rev. Frank Curtis and Rev. Brian DeLong. Honourary Pallbearers for the service will be Ben Waugh, Gordon Waugh, John Waugh and Ralph Waugh. A Reception will follow the service. Private Family interment will take place in the Douglas Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick, Heart and Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick, Nashwaaksis United Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
