It is with a very heavy heart that the family of Benedict James Brennan announce his peaceful passing at the Dr. Everett Chalmers on Friday, March 1, 2024, surrounded by his family, after a year and half battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Ben was born in Blissfield, NB on December 1, 1954. He was the son of the late John and Clara (McEvoy) Brennan.
Ben is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Norma (Murray): daughters, Shelley (Brian) Gaillard and Melissa (Billy) Ste.Croix; his granddaughters, Chayse, Jillian and Ruby; his grandsons, Caleb and Cash; his siblings, Jackie (Duncan) Boucher, Dale (Esma) Brennan, Geraldine (Bob) Morrison, Margaret (Walter) Sealy, Marlene (Danny) Keenan, Willard Brennan, Sharon Fournier and Kim Brennan; sister in-law, Joyce (Archie) Price; and several nieces and nephews.
Ben was predeceased by his parents John and Clara Brennan; mother and father in-law, Raymond and Ruby Murray; brother-in-law, Louis Fournier; and nephew Jeremiah Morrison.
After High School, he was employed with Acadia Pulp and Paper before moving to Bathurst in 1974 to work with NBTEL as a Telephone Technician. In 2000, he moved to Fredericton to finish out his career. After retirement, he continued to work part time at Kents, Emera Utilities and Pro Data, and he loved spending his summers working on his woodlot in Doaktown. Throughout his career, he made many life long friends. He loved participating in many different sports such as, bowling, softball, hockey and curling.
His pride and joy was his five grandchildren. He was so proud of them and they loved their Kopie, dearly. He loved spending all his time telling them stories, taking them camping or back in the woodlot on the side by side. In the winter, you could often find him at the hockey rink cheering on his favourite hockey player.
He also enjoyed, playing and listening to music around the campfires singing and playing his guitar and traveling around to blue grass festivals and jamborees with his friends.
One of Ben's favorite places to camp was over in Taxis River at Shirley and Merrills' camp
He was a wonderful story teller and always had a great joke to tell.
Heartfelt gratitude goes out to all the staff at Extra Mural, especially Heidi, Tanya and Krista, ER and ICU doctors and nursing staff.
Visitation will take place from York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton NB on Friday, March 8, 2024 from 2-5 pm; with prayers and reflections at 3 pm.
