Obituary of Zena Ross nee Street
Zena Winifred Rose Ross passed away Monday, June 17, 2013 at the Pine Grove Nursing Home. She was born in England, June 18, 1921. During the Second World War, she served her country by working in a Munitions Factory as an Inspector and met her future husband, Private Wilmot Ross during that time. In November of 1946, Zena, Wilmot and their infant daughter, Valerie ventured to Canada, making her one of the last of the remaining war brides. She took pride in her family and was blessed with three wonderful sons, Ronald, William and Roger. Her zest for life, her strong sense of adventure and her courage brought her to Fredericton shortly after her children were grown. The character virtues she modeled included, integrity, pride, compassion, love, a strong sense of humor, an adventurous spirit and her ability to view everyone as her equal. She taught what she lived.
Zena will be missed by her daughter, Valerie (Perley) Palmer; sons, Ronald (Mildred) Ross, William (Gayle) Ross and Roger (Elaine) Ross. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, George Street and Ada (Hill) (Painter) Street and an older half brother, Ronald Painter.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Thursday, June 20, 2013 from 2-3 pm; followed by a memorial service at 3 pm. Interment will take place in Sunny Bank Cemetery. Zena’s family would like to especially thank both the staff and management of Gagetown Special Care Home, Terraces Special Care Home and Pine Grove Nursing Home for their professionalism, kindness and care.
