Obituary of Murray Arnold Lister

Please share a memory of Murray to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Murray Arnold Lister, beloved husband, father, and brother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born in Harvey, NB on April 21, 1939, he was the son of the late Maurice and Pearle (Little) Lister.

In his youth he was a Boy Scout and a member of the 4-H Club. He was the valedictorian of his graduating class at Harvey Regional High School in 1957. He then worked at the Royal Bank of Canada, traveling to several places until deciding to come back home to Harvey and work on his family farm, Sunnycrest Farm. Once returning, Murray became very active in St. Andrew’s United Church and served as their treasurer for many years. He was also a past Master Mason of Cherry Mountain Lodge No. 50. Murray greatly enjoyed curling. In his later years he loved camping in Woodstock with Linda and gardening. Whether curling when he was younger or playing cards as he grew older, Murray had a very competitive spirit — he loved winning, or perhaps better put, hated losing.

In addition to his loving wife Linda (Cole) Lister, Murray is survived by his daughters, Trudy Chapman (Bob) and Jill McCullough (Mark Scaplen); grandchildren, Spencer, Abigail, Paige, Aidan and Jacob; great grandchild, Charlotte; brothers, Ross Lister (Christine) and Edwin Lister (Donna Dunn); sisters, Betty Hawkins (Alan) and Maxine Stenning (Michael); several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Funeral Service will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church, 2350 Route 3, Harvey Station, NB on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at 3 pm, with Rev. Dr. Bradley Little officiating, and Pastor Hubert Perkins and Rev. Christine Johnson assisting. Reception to follow at the CE Centre. Interment will take place at Harvey Settlement Cemetery at a later date.

For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Parkinson’s Society or Harvey Settlement Cemetery.
