Obituary of James Marty Hunter
It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that the Hunter family announces the passing of James “Jimmy” Marty Hunter on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at the young age of 39 years, born on September 8, 1986.
Jim entered the world as a determined, energetic little boy—a spirit that stayed with him throughout his life. He found joy in camping, gardening, kayaking, gaming, and spending time with friends, and of course, tormenting his sister, Anita. Jim graduated from Doaktown Consolidated High School in 2004. Following graduation, he pursued a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse, a role that truly reflected his caring and compassionate nature.
Jim had a special way with his patients, who adored him in return. He devoted time, patience, and genuine kindness to everyone he cared for. Beyond his professional life, Jim also became a devoted caregiver to several special family members in Miramichi. Caring for others was at the heart of who he was—when he was helping someone, he was truly happy.
Jim had a deep love for animals, especially his beloved pugs: Paris, Brittany, and Xander. When his nieces entered the world, they quickly became the most important girls in his life. He cherished time spent with them doing arts and crafts and eagerly embraced any adventure they suggested.
Gardening, canning, and cooking became true passions for Jim, especially when he could share his creations and feed others. He will always be remembered for his love of glitter and sparkle—he left a trail behind him wherever he went. Known for his vibrant personality, Jim had an impressive collection of jewellery, handbags, and sunglasses, often arriving home with a new treasured piece.
Jimmy passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loved ones. With the help of several amazing nurses, friends, and family, he received the very best care and was deeply loved through it all.
Jim is survived by his partner, best friend, and soulmate, Kevin McGraw; stepdaughter, Joli McGraw; parents, Marty Hunter and Mary Anne Hunter; sister, Anita Hunter (Bruce Storey); nieces, Sophie and Marlie Lovelace; grandmother, Faye O’Donnell; and many very special uncles, aunts, and cousins. He is also survived by his extended Black River Bridge family: Cathy Arseneault (Frank), George McGraw, and Steve McGraw (Kelly). Jim is predeceased by his Uncle Tom, Two Gramps Jimmy and Kaye and Nanny Louise O’Donnell.
