Obituary of Nancy Garon

Nancy Garon 

May 9, 1968 - February 4th, 2026 

"You're in the arms of an angel; may you find some comfort here"

It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Nancy Garon, 57, of Fredericton, NB on Wednesday, February 4^th, 2026, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital after battling a brief and courageous illness. Nancy’s soul was surrounded by her loving family and close friends throughout her journey.

Born on May 9^th, 1968, in Amqui, Quebec, Nancy leaves behind her loving son, Brandon Nason (Jenna) and her beloved grandchildren; Owen and Sawyer. She will be deeply missed and remembered by her parents, Lisette and Jean-Yves Garon; her sister, Renée; her brother, Marc (Cyndi); her special niece, Britney Darrah and her son Leo Keenan; LeAnne Cunningham (Joel) and their son Oakes; her nephews, Marc, Andre, Emmanuel and Luke. She will also be forever missed by several aunts, uncles, cousins, special friends Lorna Clyde, Susan Theriault, Jacinthe Breau, Julie Sirois and her treasured UNB family. She was predeceased by her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Nancy’s pride will always be her son, Brandon. She spent countless days being his biggest cheerleader and fan on the ball fields where many memories and friends were made. Nancy felt a sense of accomplishment seeing her love and lessons reflected in Brandon’s character, making her feel that being his mother was her greatest honour. Brandon works for the University of New Brunswick, in the same department as Nancy and she was so proud and honoured that he ended up choosing his career there. She would often say “that’s my son” and would smile ear to ear with pride. Always steady by his side, she truly loved guiding her son as he evolved into the man he is today.

Becoming a “Gigi” was a role Nancy claimed so naturally, making sure she was there for all the special moments. She enjoyed regular outdoor adventures to the Green and one on one time with Owen and Sawyer. “Family is important” she would often say. The joy she felt watching Brandon raise his boys was truly immeasurable.

Nancy and her niece, Britney shared an unbreakable bond. A connection that was undeniably unique and powerful. Nancy was her confidant, support and her mentor. She was so proud of Britney and all her accomplishments, recognizing her strengths, especially in her workplace. Britney was “the daughter she never had”. She often said Britney and Brandon had a “sibling type of bond” and that is what they had. Britney promised Nancy they would forever be supportive and protective of each other and that Owen, Sawyer and Leo would always stay connected.

Nancy had many paw prints cross her heart over the years. She had a passion for helping animals any way she could, from volunteering to grooming to fostering to offering guidance on training or to lend a compassionate ear. She often joked that she became “famous” when she fostered Tiny, the 30lb internet phenomenon cat that was left at the SPCA. Their fame landed them at the NB Legislature as well as being aired on CNN, CTV and CBC. With her big heart, she not only welcomed Tiny into her home but also helped raise awareness and funds by taking Tiny to events and fundraisers. She even made “Tiny Ties” all to help cover medical expenses for animals in need.

She was very proud of her 36+ years at UNB Facilities Management where she built many close friendships. Nancy had a gift for making people feel valued and cared for and her warmth touched everyone who had the joy in knowing her. She was passionate about her work and felt privileged being a UNB employee. Her colleagues described her as being supportive, dependable and approachable.

Nancy always had projects on the go, whether it was woodworking, crafting, decorating, hosting or volunteering. She treasured the times she volunteered at the Fredericton Community Kitchen, SPCA, York Care, Harvest Jazz & Blues, CARMA and the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital where she loved giving back to the community and connecting with new people.

A Memorial Service will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, New Brunswick on Wednesday, February 11^th, 2026, at 11 a.m. A private burial will take place in the spring surrounded by family and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, Nancy’s wish is for all donations to be made to “Tiny’s Medical Fund” through the Fredericton SPCA.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Jeffery Ginn, Dr. Irha Sikandar, Dr. Jun Ha Lee and the team of DECH Hospitalists for their support and compassion during this tragic time. You showed Nancy and the family true empathy and provided exceptional care throughout her journey. Thank-you to the Palliative Care team at the DECH (nurse Megan), the nursing team on 4SE and to Dr. Kelsey Cameron and Dr. Jeffery Ginn for their professionalism and kindness during Nancy’s final moments.

In her memory, she would want you to “live fully, laugh often, and love deeply. Hug your loved ones a little tighter and treasure each and every day.”
