Obituary of Robert Earl Bland

Robert Earl Bland, affectionately known as "Bobby," passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton, NB. Born on November 12, 1959, in Toronto, ON, he was a beloved son of the late Edward and Edith Bland.

Bobby was a dedicated carpenter and a talented amateur and professional boxer. He had over 130 fights combined. Bobby was a 5 time Canadian amateur champion, 2 times golden gloves champion in NY state. Also making the national team. Bobby worked at American Standard in Toronto for over 18 years. Eventually relocating his family to Fort Erie, Ontario. Bobby’s passion and dream was to open a boxing club. Bobby devoted his time after work to the gym for many years coaching the youth and adults in the area. His commitment, generosity and guidance built an extended Bland’s boxing family that will carry his legacy for years to come.

He is survived by his spouse of 46 years, Shelley Bland; his children, Shaun (Jessica), Julie, Nicole (Dan), and Robbie (Desiree). His grandchildren, Shaun Jr., Alyssa, Aiden, Nathan, Jaxon, Harley, Lleyton, Brady, Danika, Aria, Aiyana, and Ayla, brought immense joy to his life. Bobby also leaves behind brothers, Tommy (Jeanette), Albert (Heather), David (Lucy), Jimmy (Terry), Ricky (Kelly); and sister, Elsie Deleskie (late Donnie); as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Edith Bland; as well as his brothers, Billy, George; and sister, Rosemary.

There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, October 18th at 2pm in Welland, Ontario at Bland’s boxing club, 298 Crowland Ave. Also, at Bobby’s request, there will be another celebration of life on Sunday, October 19th at Legion Branch 344, 1395 Lakeshore Blvd at 2pm in Toronto, Ontario.
