John Waldron Boone

May 16th, 1940 – April 27th, 2025

Johnny, affectionately known by his grandchildren and great grandchildren as “Papa John”, departed his earthly life April 27th, 2025 at Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. After being admitted March 15th he struggled to overcome the illnesses that took him there with the attentive medical care provided by nurses, therapists and Doctors assigned to him; and the daily support of love and attention given by his cherished grandson Brandon, his wife Alyssa, and his daughter, Shelley. He was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick on May 16th, 1940 to John Allison McKay (Jack) and Myrtle Agatha (McIntosh) Boone.

He is survived by his sister, Georgie Beatty (Frank); niece, Kim Godin (Kevin); nephew, Kevin Beatty; great nephews, Jacob and Alexander Beatty; daughter, Shelley Sansom (Brock); grandchildren, Matthew Sansom (Michelle), Vanessa Talmage (Darrin), Kathryn Sansom-Schumacher (Ben), Justin Beattie (Crystal), Jennifer Bruce (Danny), Brandon Bruce (Alyssa) and Chelsey Bruce (Preston); great grandchildren, Liam and Ruby Sansom, Matthew Meadows (Helen), Emily and Ellie Talmage, Verna and Leonora Schumacher, Dylan and Brian Beattie, Baylee (Alec), and Will Astle (Kira), Caleb, Emma and Aiden Poirier, Max Lahaie, Noah and Brayden Bruce, Peyton Feener-Bruce, Jasper and Cedric Cail.

He is predeceased by his parents, Jack and Myrtle; wife, Greta; daughter, Stacey Boone; and son, Brian Bruce.

Johnny’s employment included different jobs: Managing the Air Force Club, driving delivery trucks for Coke, and in later years for Mike’s Bakery. During summers at TNT Campground he volunteered his time doing lawn mowing. He loved to keep busy. He and Greta enjoyed many summers camping at TNT, spending their time playing golf and washer toss. Johnny was an avid golfer and was the envy of his family members when he succeeded in making a hole in one. A special thank you goes to Mike Soucy, a loyal friend and employer who kept him active in golf and making sure he attended his weekly hockey games at UNB. Johnny was athletic, strong and skilled at the sports he participated in. He started playing hockey as a young lad at the York Arena where we are proud to see a photo of him with fellow players on display; and continued on until on as an old timer hockey player, travelling in Europe to play. As sad as his family is that we have lost he and Greta within such a short time of each other, we recognize he was a lost sole without her and we take comfort that he is with her again now.

York Funeral Home has been entrusted with his care. In keeping with Johnny’s wishes there will be no visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend the interment service at Hillcrest United Church Cemetery on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 11 am with a reception to follow. Personal Condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
