Rev. Roosevelt Theodore Benson June 28, 1928 – April 6, 2025

Rev. Roosevelt Theodore (Ted) Benson of Fredericton NB, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025 at the age of 96. Born on Grand Manan Island NB, he was the son of Ottawa (Ottie) Benson and Hildred (Lil) Benson. He was predeceased by his devoted wife of 64 years, Grace Catherine Benson, as well as siblings: Vernice Wilcox, (Prescott), Allison Benson (Lois), and Cpl. Rodney Benson.

Their dear brother is remembered by sisters: Charlotte Frost (Teddy) Grand Manan, N.B., Jacqueline (Tiny) Benson, St. Petersburg, FL., Bonny Gaskill (Eben) Grand Manan, N.B., Florena Daggett (Brock Sr.) Grand Manan, N.B. and niece, Shelley Griffin (John) Grand Manan, N.B., who in many ways was another sister to him.

Ted will be deeply missed by his children Melvin L. (Beth) and Fenton G. Benson. Ted was a proud grandfather to Matthew James (Melanie) and their son, great-grandson Isaac James Ottawa; Adam Wesley (Laura) and their daughter, great-granddaughter Madelynn Belle; and Justin Daniel Benson.

For over 70 years, Rev. R.T. Benson served faithfully as a pastor, guide, volunteer, and friend to anyone in need of comfort, encouragement, or simply a listening ear. In an age that seems increasingly dark his unwavering loyalty and deep faith in God still stands as a compelling and much-needed contrast. Ted will be fondly remembered for his warmth, quiet strength, steadfast faith, and gentle wisdom. He will be deeply missed by his family and by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of life event will take place for family and friends on Wednesday April 16 at York Funeral Home Fredericton NB at 2PM with visitation at 1PM. Pastor Reg Thomas will be officiating. The interment will be at a later date at Sunny Bank cemetery in Devon. Ted’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the York Care Centre for their heartfelt care and concern during his stay. Any financial contributions in Ted’s memory may be made to Caton’s Island Camp (https://www.catonsisland.com/donate), or other charity of your choosing. Personal condolences may be made through www.yorkfh.com.
