Obituary of Eugenie Mary Pitre

Eugenie (Jennie) Mary Pitre passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 in Fredericton, NB. She was 88 years old. Born in Bathurst, NB in the latter days of the Great Depression she grew up in a large loving family on the shore of the Bathurst Basin.

Jennie was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Pitre and her grandson, Sean Steels (Nicole), her parents, Leo and Catherine (Melanson) White and first husband, Roméo Arseneault.

She is survived by her children, Nicole (Ron) Steels of Penticton, BC; André (Lisa) Arseneault of Fredericton; René (Bonni) Arseneault of Hampton; Marc Pitre of Springfield, MO; Riley (Daphne) Tasker of Marietta, GA; Michel (late Celeste) of Guelph, ON.

Mémère's surviving grandchildren, Josh Pitre (René), Erika Steels (Nicole), Phoebe MacDonald (Michel), Sébastien Arseneault (André), Eliott Arseneault (André), Metisse Arseneault (Michel), Makenzie Wong (René), Léo Arseneault (Michel), Hudson Tasker (Riley) and Finley Tasker (Riley).

Jennie was the youngest of a family of nine. Her only surviving sibling is Anne Gauthier of Ottawa. She was predeceased by her siblings, Mont, Basil, Urban, Olive, Evangeline, Rena and Gladys.

Jennie grew up in Bathurst and moved to Dalhousie, NB where she lived until 1980 when she married Raymond and moved to Valdosta, Georgia then Jacksonville, Florida.

She was a founding member of the Chaleur Echoes barbershop chorus in Dalhousie. Jennie loved food, cooking and entertaining. She enjoyed long walks along the beaches near her Florida home, knitting for friends and family and many other crafts.

Mom spent the last five years at Shannex Fredericton where everyone knew her and loved her kind, friendly and helpful disposition.

Her funeral mass will be at Holy Family Church, 430 St. Peter Avenue, Bathurst, NB on Monday, June 23, 2025 at 2 pm. A celebration of life will follow.
