Obituary of James George Harris
We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of James "Jim" George Harris of
For those who didn't know Jim, you might have looked at him and seen a quiet, stoic man, but behind that famous Harris scowl was another side to Jim that he reserved for his friends, family and everyone else he loved. Jim had a quick, witty sense of humour and loved to make other people laugh with his out of pocket one liners. His laugh came right from his belly and often included a knee slap or two. He was a protector at heart and fiercely loved his family and friends. He always made a point of being available as someone you could talk to - whether it was polite conversation or meaningful discussions about business or life in general. Renowned around the area for his hunting skills, he was always sought out by other avid outdoorsmen as a mentor for their hunting trips. When Jim wasn't spending time with his family or relaxing with his beloved dog Cooper, he loved to spend time out in the woods with his best friends David Wood & Jeff McGee. Jim loved live music and watching a good car race either on TV or better yet - on the track.
Jim was a patient and generous man who was always involved in his children and grandchildren's lives and accomplishments. He attended every recital and concert, coached his son & step-son's baseball teams & traveled all over to take his daughter to her equestrian events. Besides the cut-off jean shorts & the white New Balance sneakers with high socks he would wear to the ball field, it was his dedication to his children that made Kelly fall in love with him. They were each other's second chance at happiness and both made the absolute most of the time they had together. They were each other's best friends & the centre of each other's universe - and no matter where they were, as long as they were together, they were happy.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Kelly; son, Travis Harris (Victoria); daughters, Katelyn Taylor (Justin) and Toni; step-daughter, Taryn McLaughlin (Travis); step son, Kyle Ashfield (Haley); grandchildren, Brooke, Bella, Maddox, Jayda, Dylan, Bethany, Tucker, Easton, Lileigh, and one along the way, several siblings & great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, March 28, 2025, at The Marysville Heritage Centre on
