Obituary of Romeo Joseph LeBlanc

Please share a memory of Romeo to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

The passing of Romeo Joseph LeBlanc of Fredericton, NB husband of the late Antoinette (Vautour) LeBlanc, occurred on Friday, February 28, 2025 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton.  Born on January 4, 1937 in Bouctouche, NB, he was a son of the late Eugene and Laudia (Savoie) LeBlanc.

Dad moved to Fredericton from Bouctouche when he was 17 years old. He started clearing brush at CFB Gagetown and could not speak a word of English. He soon met someone that preceded to advise him of a position at Acadia Forestry. Dad started planting trees and eventually started driving the bus for the children to go to school in Fredericton and run errands. He eventually went to work in the Federal building on Queen Street as a Custom Officer. He retired when he was 54 years old.

He loved the outdoors; he enjoyed his snowmobile, wheeler and his Gold Wing. He was very disappointed when he had to trade his Gold Wing for a scooter.

Married to Antoinette (Vautour) for 67 years, who just predeceased him in August of 2024.

Romeo is survived by his children, Shirley McCoy (Aubrey) and Joan Swan (Charlie); grandchildren, Benjamin, Tarah (Phillip) and Caleb; three great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Annette Davidson, Clairice Savoie, Claudette LeBlanc (Fernand), Simonne Boucher, Murielle Savoie (Elze), Janice Cormier (Gerald), Guy LeBlanc and Gille LeBlanc; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife and parents, Romeo was predeceased by his brothers, Alonzo and Hector.

Following Romeo’s wishes, there will be no public services. A Private Service will be held from York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel and interment in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Fredericton, NB will take place at a later date. Special thank you to Dr. Lee and Dr. Goodyear and the Palliative Unit for looking after our father with empathy and compassion. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Hospice Fredericton (Palliative Care Resource Network Inc.). Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
