After a long life, multiple ministries and good works, countless friends and connections, Sister Charlotte Lockhart, CND, passed away at Windsor Court on August 23, 2023.
Sister Charlotte was born in the village of Notre Dame, NB. She was a fourth daughter to Charles and Elizabeth Lockhart. After Normal School and several years teaching, plus further education and a BS in Home Economics from St. F.X., Charlotte made the decision to join the Sisters of the Congregation of Notre Dame, a teaching religious community. She made first vows in 1952 and spent many happy years teaching in schools in Nova Scotia. After retirement, she returned to New Brunswick and came to the village of Stanley for 5 busy years in pastoral ministry. Following this assignment, Sister Charlotte moved into a downtown Fredericton apartment and for the next eighteen years, enjoyed participating in ministry opportunities with St. Anthony's Parish.
In recent years, she has been residing at Windsor Court. While appreciating the care she needed and received, she continued to be involved in what the CND has termed
"liberating education." With her computer, printer and email access, she shared jokes and stories, timely reflections from authors and resources, her passion for the work of Development and Peace, and always her gift of presence, faith, friendship and humour.
Sister Charlotte is survived by one sister, Jane Murphy, of Moncton; nieces Penny Mcllwaine and Ann Aird, nephews John, Gregory, and Hugh Murphy, Charles and Andrew Wood; grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. Besides her parents, Sister Charlotte was predeceased by her sisters, Pamelia Wood and Patricia Hinckley. Also nephews Richard and Roger Wood.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton on Sunday, August 27, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The funeral will take place at St.Anthony's Church, 603 Union St., Fredericton, NB on Monday, August 28, 2023 at 11:00 am.
