Though she outlived many of our common friends, Jean’s passing came as a sad surprise for me. We met at a bridge table over thirty years ago and began a friendship that I treasured ever since. Jean loved to walk, sometimes in the aisles of Costco, and more recently used her walker with great determination. Still active and lively well into her 90s, Jean was always on top of the news. As time went by our visits were mostly by telephone, and well into evening hours when most other people our age were tucked into bed. Jean was full of wise advice, but mostly we laughed. She just missed her hundredth birthday, and I will miss her.
