Obituary of John Richard Garwood

 

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John Richard Garwood of Fredericton, NB, husband of Dawn (Giggey) Garwood, occurred on Sunday, July 2, 2023 at Hospice Fredericton.  Born on April 16, 1953 in England, he was the son of the late Rev. Albert Garwood and Evelyn (Stephens) Garwood and loving husband and best friend to Dawn for 33 years.

Besides his wife Dawn, John is survived by his son Adam Garwood (Chikako), daughters Angela Garwood-Touw (Andrew) and Erin Price (Aaron); sisters Christine Currie and Yvonne Rutten (Gerry); grandchildren, Lauren, Allison, Nicole, Norah, Leo and Winifred; several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his grandson, Cameron.

John spent much of his career in the insurance industry, retiring in 2015 as CEO of Stanley Mutual Insurance.

He had many hobbies including computers, playing guitar, and cooking.  He loved to sing and always enjoyed a karaoke night with his friends.  He and Dawn loved Corvettes and were members of the River Valley Corvette Club where they made some wonderful friends.  John was a true "Jack of all Trades" and could fix absolutely anything.  With his impeccable attention to detail and determination, he not only fixed everything, but would make it better than before with creative improvements.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to nurses Shari, Nancy, and Carlie for their compassion and care, thank you to Dr. Ross Kenney and Dr. Jill Goodyear, and thank you to Hospice House for all that you did, not only for John, but for the family as well.

Visitation will be at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 from 12:30 to 2 pm.  A Funeral service will follow at 2 pm with Rev. Canon Keith Osborne officiating.  Internment will take place in the Dayton Cemetery.  For those who wish, remembrances may be made to Hospice Fredericton or to a charity of the donor's choice.  Personal condolences may be offered through www.yorkfh.com
