Obituary of Paul Joseph Green

Paul Joseph Green passed away peacefully at the Fredericton Hospital on Monday, June 19, 2023 at the age of 78, making us laugh with politically incorrect comments until the very end.
Paul touched many people. He was kind, generous, humorous, smart, and dare I say, not always appropriate. He always told it like it was ‘whether you like it or not’, never complained, and was the epitome of someone who worked hard and played harder.
He is survived by those he loved the most, his loving wife, Joyce (Chappell) of 57 years; children, Paula, Noella Owens (Sean), Derrick (Jill) and Carrie (Chris Hammond); four amazing grandchildren, Madison and Emily Owens, Blake and Julia Green, and one soon to be grandson-in-law, Matt Butler. They were the light of his life. He is also survived by one sister, Marg Sweeney (Hazen). In addition to his parents, Charles and Dorothy (MacKinnon) Green, he was predeceased by three half brothers, Gordon, Ralph and Glen McGeehan.
He was always a Leafs fan and loved outdoor hockey in Tay Creek as a youngster. Paul graduated from Stanley High School. His father, Charlie, always wanted Paul to stay on the farm, but his mother Dorothy said “NO WAY!” She wanted him to have a better life and made sure he went to school. He graduated from Moncton Tech. His amazing work ethic drove his successful career. Beginning at Enamel and Heating in Amherst (where he met Joyce and successfully courted her), he did a very short stint building new roads in Nova Scotia working with Joyce’s father Rex at RK Chappell Construction Ltd. He then moved onto to Campeau Corp. as a design engineer in Ottawa and eventually moved to Vero Beach, FL to manage a team at TCT Engineering. This is when our family’s love affair with Vero Beach began. Our final move was to Fredericton where Paul bought into a roof truss company, MacDonald Builders Ltd., where he eventually bought out the original owner. Karl Ayer, who would become one of Paul’s best friends, partnered with Paul in the MacDonald Builders’ venture. They not only shared a business but shared a special love for the Magundy hunting camp ‘Back Home Again’. In retirement, Paul sold his business to then employee Randy Patterson, who Paul mentored and adored like a son. After retiring, Paul developed and strengthened several special friendships (a list too long to mention), spending much time in the fall at the camp in Magundy. Spending winters at the condo in Vero Beach created many more wonderful memories, golfing, as well as the regular Euchre games there at Riverwalk. They also had “their special happy place” in Walton’s Beach, where they worked (a labour of love) to make it the cottage and property they wanted. He also found friendships for life from the Kinsmen and the Mystics of Katahdin.
Paul has made peace with God and was not afraid to leave us, knowing the seed of love and caring has been sowed and will continue on. Paul/Dad/Grampie/Mr. Green, you will live on fondly in our memories. May you rest in peace in the arms of our loving God. We love you. RIP
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Thursday, June 22, 2023 from 6-8 pm. The Memorial Service will take place in York Funeral Home’s T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel at 2:30 pm on Friday, June 23, 2023 with Father Maria Arokiam Chinnappan officiating. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
